Liverpool’s predicted XI against Southampton

Liverpool face Southampton this weekend as they look to extend their unbeaten Premier League run.

The Reds have now gone 41 matches unbeaten in the top flight, and that has helped them open up a 19-point gap at the top of the table to Manchester City. It seems only a matter of time before they clinch the title officially.

However, they are unlikely to have it easy against the Saints this weekend. The south-coast team have won seven of their last 12 matches, and they will be looking to cause an upset. Here, we suggest the starting XI Jurgen Klopp should pick…
In goal, Alisson should and almost certainly will keep his place. The Brazil international has already kept eight clean sheets this term, the joint-most in the Premier League, and he will be hoping to keep out Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men to boost his chances of a second consecutive Golden Glove.

Across the back four, no changes are needed from team that beat the Hammers. As such, Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez should all start once again.

The midfield, meanwhile, should see some changes.

Fabinho was once again introduced from the bench at the London Stadium, but he has started just one match – against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup – and this may be the perfect occasion to bring him back into the fold. As such, Jordan Henderson could move slightly further forward, whilst this is a chance of Naby Keita to get some minutes as well.

That would be harsh on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who scored in midweek, but Klopp needs to keep his players as fresh as possible as looks to end this season on a high.
